APACMed was honoured to co-organize the 8th AMDC Industry Training and Forum in Manila, together with ASEAN Medical Device Committee, Philippines FDA, and PAMDRAP, on 7 – 8 August 2019.
We were also privileged to have our partner MedTech Europe to share the insights on EU MDR/IVDR changes and impact for ASEAN regulators and industry.
Our delegation also had fruitful side meetings with multiple stakeholders including the US International trade administration, Head of Policy and IVD Divisions in Philippines FDA, AdvaMed and other local industry associations.
By 2020, Asia Pacific will be the second biggest market for MedTech, behind the US, and ahead of the EU. Home to over half of the world’s population, the region counts more than 50 % of the world’s chronic disease burden and nearly 60% of the world’s ageing population.
The objectives of the MedTech Industry Footprint Project is twofold:
- Quantify the MedTech industry footprint across the region
- Provide the evidence base for APACMed and Members’ advocacy efforts
The project involved both desk research and some statistical modelling, to gather over 250+ data points across 20 attributes around 5 overarching themes:
- Understanding the Market
- Fostering Innovation
- Contribution to Society
- Challenges Faced Business Ethics and Compliance
