To inform policy decisions, governments often rely on Health Technology Assessment (HTA) frameworks to determine the value of innovative medical technologies and devices. However, there’s no single, unified framework and each country has its own approach, reflecting local priorities and limitations.
In the APAC region, Australia, South Korea, and Japan are leading the way with well-established and evolving HTA systems for medical devices. While their methods and processes differ, these countries highlight the importance of tailored HTA frameworks for optimal healthcare resource allocation.
The “Health Technology Assessment for Medical Devices in Asia Pacific” webinar hosted by APACMed on 29 February 2024 featured experts from Avalere Health and INTAGE Healthcare. They discussed the variations in HTA across Australia, South Korea, and Japan and explored how the industry can continue to play a role in supporting the evolution of value assessment frameworks for medical technologies.
