While many of these innovation concepts are backed by sound evidence, we face challenges of scale in the Asia Pacific. Biten Kathrani is the Head of R&D for Asia Pacific for Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. Based in Singapore, he represents APAC region in the Vision Care R&D Leadership team and is responsible for developing and leading R&D programs, partnerships and innovation in eye health in the APAC region. He is also responsible for leading J&J Vision strategic Myopia Research Collaboration program with Singapore National Eye Center / Singapore Eye Research Institute.
Biten has been in the healthcare / medtech industry for 25 years leading R&D, Innovation and new ventures in APAC (China and India) and USA. He has led medtech R&D organizations in Asia Pacific for Johnson & Johnson (between 1999 to 2014), Boston Scientific (between 2014-2018) and at a start-up (1994 – 1999). He has been instrumental in setting up APAC R&D centers for J&J’s surgery businesses in India and China and Boston Scientific’s Global R&D Center in India. He has lead R&D programs and talented teams to deliver 15+ diverse medical devices and 50+ patents covering single use disposable devices, capital equipment & instruments and software & connected health platforms for Class III implantables.
He has had the opportunity to work across 8+ disease states including General Surgery and Endoscopy, Orthopedic surgery, Diabetes, Interventional Cardiology, Nephrology, Neuromodulation, and most recently Eye Health.
He has been proponent of Design Thinking and Customer needs & Insights driven innovation and has been associated with the Stanford Biodesign program since 2009. He is also a member of the Founders Forum, a volunteer organization setup by Stanford Biodesign alumni to support medtech startups through their commercialization and scale up journey in India. During his tenure with Boston Scientific in India, he was an active member of Global In-house Capability (GIC) committee, North India Chapter at NASSCOM. Boston Scientific’s Global India R&D center won the NASSCOM Innovation Excellence Award for GIC’s (Global Inhouse Capability Centers) in India in April 2018.
Biten holds an MBA from the ivy league Wharton Business School, an M. Tech in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Mumbai; and he is a certified Patent Agent with the India Patent Office. He has launched more than 15 products and has several granted patents in this name.

Miang has a board experience in Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Research, Reimbursement, Government Affairs and Quality Assurance in Asia Pacific including Japan. Prior to Alcon Miang has worked for numbers of MNC (Takeda & Boston Scientific, J&J, Actelion, Cochlear & Bausch & Lomb) in different locations (Bangkok, Hong Kong, Sydney and Singapore and Zimmer Asia Pacific) for both Pharma and Devices industries.
In addition, she has been heavily involved with numbers of harmonization activities including GHTF, AHWP and ACCSQ. She was invited to be one of the speakers and consultants of Malaysian MOH during their early stage of medical devices regulatory framework formalization. Prior to Johnson & Johnson, Sharad worked with GE Healthcare as Global Regulatory Affairs Leader and was responsible for leading multiple strategic regulatory projects including NPI’s for anesthesia, respiratory & maternal infant care devices. In his previous experience he worked with European certification/ notified body as ISO 13485 & CE Marking lead auditor for medical device. Paul Chua will be responsible for improving the security of BD products and solutions that are sold to customers across Greater Asia by design, in use
and through partnership. Paul will oversee and direct the adoption of the corporate product security framework within the Greater Asia region and

Paul is a seasoned professional with more than 23 years of experience
managing product development, sales/marketing and operations at APAC level across IT, Telecommunications, Cybersecurity, and Homeland Security industries for established multinational companies such as Motorola, Airbus; government agencies, such as Ministry of Home Affairs; and early stage startups. He had helped to conceptualize and build large-scale Command & Control (C2) systems, Decision Support Systems (DSS), Security Operation
Centers (SOC) and Smart & Safe City Projects across Asia Pacific. Prior to joining BD, Paul was the Chief Product Officer of a Singapore data analytics
